As BowenWork practitioners, we understand that your pain is very real.
With BowenWork , you body will begin to relax; allowing the natural healing process to begin.
For example, when you are driving your car, when you slam on the brakes, your backside will start to slide forward and the deceleration on will be felt through your hands and feet. Your brain responds by signaling the muscles in your arms and legs to tighten up to stop you from sliding forward in the seat. Once the car stops, the brain sends out a signal to relax.
When there is an injury or trauma to the body, the signal is sent to tighten your muscles, however, the signal to relax isn't sent, resulting in pain and stiffness.

During a BowenWork session the therapist places their fingers at specific parts of the muscle and with firm pressure, stretches the skin across the muscle to contact its edge. This results in a signal telling that muscle and others around it to relax.
But, it does more than that! Because the area on which we work on is tied in with the autonomic nervous system (the system that controls automatic things that we don’t usually think about such as breathing) BowenWork can have an impact upon the entire body, such as the digestive and respiratory system. Many clients feel an overall relaxation of their entire body.
BowenWork is done over clothing, and a session may take anywhere from 25 to 60 minutes.
